Malaysia Midnight Sales Carnival Boosts Tourism And Retail In Sarawak
The two-day Malaysia Midnight Sales Carnival at Bintang Megamall, Miri, significantly boosted tourism and retail spending in Sarawak. Held on March 22 and 23, the event featured a Special Sale Moment from 10 PM to midnight, where shoppers had the chance to win prizes worth over RM20,000 with a minimum purchase of RM250.
Organised by Jalakx Sdn Bhd and supported by Tourism Malaysia, Pullman Hotel & Resort, Ojas Electronic, Parkson, and Bintang Megamall, the carnival attracted crowds with performances and activities, including special appearances by Ezra Kaito and Zubir Khan, a spin-and-win contest, a mall treasure hunt, and Sarawak cultural showcases.
Sarawak State Director of Tourism, Rubiah Tul’Adwiyah Md Yusof from Tourism Malaysia, said, “The Malaysia Midnight Sales Carnival has been a great success in driving tourism and retail spending in Sarawak. We are pleased to support an event that not only brings joy to shoppers but also significantly contributes to the local economy.”
The carnival saw a strong response from Bruneian visitors, who took advantage of the sales for Hari Raya shopping. The influx of tourists led to high hotel occupancy rates in Miri and benefitted local businesses, including vendors, transport services, and F&B outlets.
The event reinforced Miri’s position as a shopping destination, with organiser Jalakx Sdn Bhd thanking all partners and supporters for their contributions to its success.
